Fakes Like You.....

Modern Life Is War - Fakes Like You (Make Me Sick)

This is a lesson in letting your guard down. Sometimes open arms are an invitation for disaster. So next time, I’ll trust my fucking instincts. next time you come around, all you will get are cold stares & cold shoulders. I’ll be crouching with my fists clenched in the corner. I can only hang on so tight for so long. I’m letting you go. I will be just fine on my own. You can’t come in. I’m leaving you out in the cold because there’s no room left in my heart for fakes like you.

I think this is the first Modern Life Is War song i heard. The lyrics are great, i'm sure most people can relate to them in one way or another. It's true though, some people never learn. They stay the same and no matter how many times you open up, no matter how much you care, they'll always be fake. It hurts to see but you have to let go and the next time they come around trust your instincts.

Modern Life Is War is by far one of the most intense and original bands around right now, in my opinion Jeff is one of the best lyrics writer in hardcore.

yeah, he is. the way that he writes makes it really easy too relate too, its so powerful. i also think pat from have heart is an amazing writer.

i agree also. amazing amazing amazing.

im sick of the typical...i hate my life...everyone sucks...blah blah blah...break down...now mosh.
shits plaaaaayed. and so are the fashioncore guys...it's not attractive. sweet tight jeans, flat ironed hair, and shitty piercings...they look like they fell into a tackle box.

wow yes Have Heart is a good one as well, I was amazed by their full length. We played a show with them early january and I can honestly say we smoked them off the stage. I thought they were pretty mediocre. 'The Things We Carry'however 100 percent altered my opinion. One of the best records to come out this year.

And if you're sick of all the depressed, macho and fashion stuff I advise you to check out the new Heartfelt full length. Subjects a deal with on that record are the closedmindness of kids here in the netherlands, a Dutch soldier who refused to go to afghanistan because he thought that the Dutch soldiers weren't up for the task, how anyone can become homeless so we shouldn't be so judgemental and the list goes on.

kate - i know there is so much typical garbage in hardcore, songs that are like 3 mintues long and have 2 mintues of breakdowns. and i agree, fashion overrated, especially tight jeans, ironed hair, and tackle box fashion.

xroldx - what band do you play in? i will check out hearfelt, sounds like good stuff. the closemindedness of kids here is an issue too. so much that sometimes i feel like its some sort of high school clique. most the kids are in their 20's or out of high school and they still feel the need to exclude and only seem to dig a specific genre of hardcore music. in my mind they contradict everything that hardcore was founded on.

Based on the name alone, I ignored MLIW for so long. I had no idea what they sounded like, but I figured it was probably too "hard" for my tastes. I finally saw them play live and they blew my away with their energy and passion...and their music was powerful...so driving. I was impressed, and although I dont think their records capture that same kind of intensity, this band is growing on me.

mike - give this band time, alot of time if you need to. when i first started listening to them it was good but it didn't really capture me. i probably listened to them on and off for a year, then i saw them live and it was like their records came to life.i find the bands that are the most challenging to dig are the bands that i end up appreciating the most.

its funny because my friend jess dated the kid who put out the modern life is war self titled cd on martyr records...and he was like, oh you guys should come check out this band. we went to a show...right away we were like, shit they're awesome. i didnt really get into them thought until i went overseas...my love my way and witness got me through some hard times.

"I dont think their records capture that same kind of intensity..." really? when i listen to witness...it's just like, holy shit...i think its completely amazing. it does something for me.

i'm the same way kate. mliw records have a special place with me. there are only a handful of albums that are timeless for me and both mliw records are in that group.
